Ballet Aqua Grande

The two act ballet La leyenda del agua grande, the most recent creation of the Cuban National Ballet, under the general direction of Alicia Alonso, will be presented to the Cuban public as a pre-premiere at the Gran Teatro de La Habana, on Saturday the 29 of May at 8-30pm.

A second presentation will be made on Sunday 30 of May, at 5:00pm.

La leyenda del agua grande is a choreography of Eduardo Blanco, with music by Miguel Núñez about a legend, with guarani origins, of the Iguazu waterfalls, a natural wonder located in the border between Brazil and Argentina.

The script was written by José Ramón Neyra, the costumes by Frank Álvarez, the set design by Salvador Fernández and the lighting by Pedro Benítez.

The argument of the ballet tells the love story of the warrior Tarobá and the beautiful Naipí, who is destined to be sacrifice to Mboi´Tui, a monster of the guarani mythology, which by breaking a huge rock makes the water to fall in the waterfalls.

In the production of de La leyenda del agua grande take part the Cuban National Ballet, and the Brazilian Cultural Cooperative.

After the premiere in Havana, the Cuban National Ballet will premiere from July, this choreography in Foz de Iguazú – located next to the waterfalls -, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Campinas and Porto Alegre.
