HAVANA, Cuba, May 17 (acn) President Raul Castro closed on Sunday the 10th Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) and ratified the confidence of the Revolution in the Cuban farmers and their main task: to produce food for the people.

Raul presided over the final session of the meeting that took place at the Universal Hall of the Revolutionary Armed Forces in Havana.

During the closing session of the event, Marino Murillo, Vice-president of the Council of Ministers, said that Cuban farmers are ready to increase agricultural yield, in order to contribute to the replacement of imports. Murillo underlined the need of increasing the production of root vegetables, vegetables, grains, milk, meat and other lines, so the country can stop buying them abroad.

He pointed out that it’s necessary to make the most of available resources, diversify production, guarantee food for animals, apply science and technology, and give a boost to urban and sub-urban agricultural programs.

He called to join forces with the sectors linked to the fields of agriculture and livestock, and with the food, light, and iron and steel industries, with the purpose of making a better use of products, reduce losses, and increase efficiency.
