Hemingway Fidel
The Ernest Hemingway Museum in Havana is celebrating the 50th anniversary of meeting held between Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and the author of The Old Man and the Sea.

A diverse cultural program is planed at the museum for May 12, 13 and 14, including an exhibition of original photos of Hemingway in the company of Cuban fishermen, conferences and tributes.

The Ernest Hemingway Museum is appropriately housed in Finca Vigia, the villa that the Nobel Prize-winning author bought in 1949. Preserved with care, the villa contains most of Hemingway's possessions and library, kept as they were when the Hemingways left.

Hemingway worked on some of his most famous books at Finca Vigia, including For Whom the Bell Tolls. In the garden is the author's pet cemetery and boat, Pilar, that inspired the classic tale of The Old Man and the Sea.

During a press conference, museum director Ada Rosa Alfonso announced the 13 International Ernest Hemingway Symposium.

The celebration of the 50th anniversary will also coincide with celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Tournament.
