The 31st FAO Regional Conference with venue in Panama is starting the debates on Monday during its technical phase regarding climate change and food security in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The agenda of the technical committee includes the assessment of issues related to the risk and response management given the emergencies in the agricultural, forest and fishing sectors in Latin America.

It also includes the climate change issue and its repercussions in food production in the region along with the territorial development in rural zones.

FAO sources consulted by Prensa Latina added that the family farming issue and the role it plays in the nations of the region represent a special interest.

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and of the civil society are also debating, in parallel with this event, issues related to the items of the conference to draw up a common document that would be taken into account by the Conference.

The FAO meeting also includes a high-level session from April 28 to 30 that will be attended by delegates from 33 countries of the region.
