The central objective of the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival is creating a culture to protect birds, and it is scheduled from April 22th, to May 22th, reported one of its organizers.

In statements to Prensa Latina Yolanda Rodríguez Toledo, director of the Natural History Museum of this city, said that both the institution and the municipality of La Sierpe will carry out activities simultaneously in this new edition of the Festival.

She said that Thursday morning an exhibition will be opened in this museum, located in the historical center of Sancti Spiritus city, which includes all the bibliography linked with birds, including books, brochures, posters and stickers.

The Museum also announces the contest Literature and Colors with Wings, open until May 5, in which primary and secondary students can participate, both in art and in literature.

This contest will be awarded on May 22th, in the aforementioned cultural institution at the close of the Festival.

Among the activities of the current month are two conferences: one about the endemic birds of Cuba and one about those living in the Caribbean, which will be given by Master Abel Hernández Muñoz.

There will be a trip to the Hornos de Cal Natural Reserve, located in this territory, to observe this type of fauna.

Scheduled for May, Rodriguez Toledo said, is the ornithological exhibition My Favorite Bird.

He added that this event involves researchers, biologists, ornithologists and even writers, all of the province, although it is also invited the Ornithological Society of Cuba.
