Conceptual proposals articulated on recordings of excellence characterize the nine productions honored with the International Cubadisco 2010 Awards, with which the great celebration of Cuban music, to be held this year from May 15 to 23, recognizes outstanding cultural values that also have a significant social impact on the discography of other countries.

Three awards, released last week during the show of Cubadisco nominees, were to Spanish artists: Ojos de Brujo (Witch´s Eyes) by Aocaná (Warner / Diquela), to Joaquín Sabina for Vinagre y Rosas (Vinegar and Roses) (Sony) and to Martirio for 25 years / Live (New Media).

El ritual de la fiesta de Mapeyé (The ritual of the Feast of Mapeyé), by Puerto Rican Mapeyé group, published by the record label of the group also won an award. The one for Los de atrás vienen conmigo (Those behind are with me) by Calle 13 had already been announced and delivered in advance during the recent stay in Cuba by the Puerto Rican duo.

Another representative from the neighbor island, won the award for her latest release, 4 / 13 (Zamora Music).

The songs of Karaí (Fondec), two albums in which the Paraguayan troubadour Ricardo Flecha sings, in Guarani, anthology pieces of Latin American songs, was recognized.

Another winning album is Saudacoes (ECM/ Carmó), with music by Brazilian Egberto Gismonti, in which his performances were combined with Camerata Romeo’s , led by Zenaida Romeu, and Alexandre Gismonti.

The winners´ list is completed with the recording sponsored by the Playing for Change project under the title of Songs around the World, released by the United States´ Record Label Concord Music Group.

The album is an initiative of producer Mark Johnson to joint together, in a register and a DVD, voices from the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia which defend cultural diversity.

One of the first reactions to the granting of the awards was that of the Spanish Martirio, who sent the Organizing Committee the following message: "What greater joy! Well, my career is made of love for music and the neglecting of business concepts that have never done anything for me.

It means a very difficult and hard-working career. In my view, the fact that one of the most knowledgeable countries with regards to music and what music is in itself, grants me this prize, crowns my lifetime devoted to communication, fusion and art. "

The singer said that she would like to share the prize in May, when she brings to Havana her latest album, together with Cuban maestro José María Vitier.

It was also learned that Mapeyé pledged his participation in Cubadisco programming devoted to Cuban country music.

Shortly before the awards were released, Joaquin Sabina, who in recent days traveled to Mexico to promote Vinagre y Rosas (Vinegar and Roses,), made public in that country an ethical position that reveals his sense of honesty when he declared, referring to those who wanted to drag him into the media campaign being carried out against Cuba by the United States and Europe: "I won’t sign any manifesto or any letter on the current situation, as long as Guantánamo (the prison that the United States keeps in that territory illegally occupied) , for example, or the blockade still exist".
