Rene Perez, the Resident of the Puerto Rican group Calle 13, recognized in a interview published in EFE, that he “will have to return to Cuba to get inspiration and be able to write”, since he had no time to do that when his group made the concert
last March in front to 200,000 people.

In Cuba, during their concert, they received the International Cubadisco award 2010, given by the Cuban Music Institute for their record “Los de atrás vienen conmigo”, for their compromise with the cultural diversity in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The concert ended with the songs “Atrévete te, te” and “La perla”, that latest in a version together with the Cuban musician Kelvis Ochoa, who sang before Calle 13 in the stage. It was the first visit to Cuba of the Puerto Rican group of urban music,
which in 2009 postponed their trip to Cuba due to problems with the travel permits in the USA.

The group will made a presentation at the Coachella festival in Los Angeles, where they shared the stage with the US rap and hip hop singer, Jay – Z.

”It is the most important music festival in the USA. It is a festival very well concentrated and selective, it is, above all other genres a festival of alternative music”, he said.

Resident assured he needed the guide of Ruben Blades and Mercedes Sosa for the composition of his new record, which will be launched next semester. He explained EFE that Blades and the late Sosa, instructed him in several of the themes of his fourth record – still without a title - , such as “Baile de los pobres”, in which it is compared the dance stiles of rich and poor people.

“The idea of the record is completely different. It is rap, but focussed in something different with writing and influences of Ruben and Mercedes”, highlighted the singer of “La jirafa”, “Electromovimiento”, “Pal’ Norte” and “Se vale to-to”.

Blades, one of the most important Latin American salsa singers, took part in the last record of Calle 13, “Los de atrás vienen conmigo”, in the song “La perla”, where he sang rap for the first time in his career.

At the same time, the Argentinean singer, invited Perez to sing in her last record “Cantora”, in the song “Canción para un niño en la calle”.

The new record of Calle 13 collects the experiences of the trips made by Resident through Latin America during the last year, such as the visit to a mental hospital in Argentina and his experiences during the last general elections in Chile.

He said he is still studying the possibility of singing a theme with the Colombia singer Totó la Momposina, as well as with the Spanish Joaquin Sabina and with the Argentinean Gustavo Cerati.

“There is an interest for us to sing together, but nobody knows. I want, but everything depends upon them”, he declared.

He added that he has being listening to music from England and Brazil, therefore, he stated, “I might sing in Portuguese” in some of the themes together with the Brazilians María Rita and Marisa Montes.
