Historian Elías Aceff Alfonso defined the community project Callejón de Hamel (Hamel Alley), celebrating its 20 anniversary, as «an example of urban transgression that converge in the first and only group of sculptures and murals dedicated to highlight the value of the Afro Cuban culture».

During a press conference held at the popular alley of the Cayo Hueso neighborhood, Aceff Alfonso, who is also a cultural promoter, informed that the commemorative event will start next 21 of April with a traditional Cuban music ceremony dedicated to Ángel Díaz.

The event, which will end next Sunday the 25 with a Chango Tambor (Chango Drum), will include on Thursday the 22 a theoretical event of the writer and essayist Roberto Zurbano, to reflect about the topic of race and history at the Callejon.

Referring to the day, the artist Salvador González, creator of the project, declared he was «happy and proud as a father, brother and son of a space which became a cultural socialization means» and is a identity symbol of a community.
