Hard Rock Havana, a short movie on the history of the Cuban heavy metal band Zeus, directed by the North American Nicholas Brennan, will compete in the coming edition of the Tribeca Festival, announced the organization of the event.

The tape, which appears in the program of the New York Festival as a joint production between the United States and Cuba, is the result of the three months long visit made by Brennan, a 21 years old student from New York University (NYU), to Cuba in 2009, when he also took pictures of the life in the Caribbean island.

"This is big news and not just for me, but also for the Zeus band, who will see how their music is presented for the first time for the US public," said the young director in his web site, as it was announced that his work had been selected to participate in the section Flashback from Tribeca.

Hard Rock Havana shows the history of the Zeus band, established in Havana in 1988 and who has been on Cuban stages for more than twenty years, as the most successful heavy metal band in our country, even thought their international repercussion might have been very small.

Zeus, who undertook a tour around Spain in the year 2000, is made up by Luis Alberto Ramírez and Ivan Vera, playing the guitars, Miguel de Oca playing the bass, Aramis Hernández in the drums and Iván Carvi as the lead singer.

Brennan's work, who has collaborated as a journalist for the ABC channel and The New York Times newspaper, will share the program with other US short movies: A 45 at 50th; Missed Connections; New American Soldier; Out of Infamy: Michi Nishiura Weglyn and White Lines & the Fever: The Death of DJ Junebug.

The Tribeca Festival, which will take place from April 21 to May 2 in New York, will welcome a total of 47 short movies in the different sections, selected among a list of more than 2700 movies, among which stand out the movie Roots in Water, directed by Domenica Scorsese, the daughter of moviemaker Martin Scorsese.

There will also be screened the short movie Bastard, which shows a couple right in the middle of a crisis, written and directed by the actress Kirsten Dunst (Marie Antoinette, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) as well as the recently Academy Award Winner The New Tenants, by Joachim Back and Tivi Magnusson.
