The Cuban Prensa Latina (PL) news agency and Egypt’s MENA signed on Monday a cooperation agreement in Cairo that will help improve mutual knowledge in both regions.

The accord was signed by PL’s President Francisco Gonzalez and his Egyptian counterpart Abdalla Hassan during a ceremony that was attended by the island’s ambassador to Egypt, Otto Vaillant.

The 12-item agreement aims at expanding and strengthening bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation, and increasing the exchange of information about both countries.

Gonzalez commented on the variety of services in different formats and languages offered by PL, the only Latin American news agency with a permanent presence in Egypt and the region, and their interest in increasing commercialization.

Meanwhile, Abdalla Hassan expressed his satisfaction with MENA’s first agreement with a Latin American and Caribbean news agency and said he is willing to explore other fields of joint work with audiovisual products.

He was also interested in visiting Cuba, in the exchange of journalists and technicians, and in supporting the work of PL’s correspondent’s office in Cairo.

Both agencies will benefit from each other’s news service in the English language and they will set the grounds to extend cooperation in the areas of photography, graphic information, audiovisuals and multimedia.
