Representatives from 30 countries are attending the 4th Iberian-American Congress on Pediatric Surgery that begins today in Havana and which will show the latest advances in this field.

During the meeting, which runs through Friday at Havana’s Convention Center, participants will discuss on topics such as neonatal surgery, congenital malformations and other diseases that affect children’s health around the world.

Other topics to be analyzed include oncological and urological surgery in children and Cuba’s experience in the surgical treatment of pancreatic lesions.

In addition, experts will learn about the current state of fetal surgery and projects of the World Information Network on this specialty through virtual university, video-endoscopic surgery and new techniques.

Rafael Trinchet, President of the Cuban and Iberian-American associations of this medical specialty, told ACN that Cuba has reached a high organizational level in the field of pediatric surgery thanks to the strengthening of computerization, the introduction of video-endoscopic surgery and the high quality in the training of professionals.
