The Week of la Francophonie, scheduled for March 13-22 in Havana, will be dedicated to Haiti as announced by Alain Zayan, cultural attach of the French embassy in the Cuban capital.

The program of the event, which aims at promoting cultural diversity, peace, human rights and democracy, will include concerts by Cuban and French musicians, plastic arts exhibitions, workshops for children, screening of films and book launchings, Zayan added.

One of the highlights of the week will be the exhibition, "La intratable belleza del mundo" (The World's Untreatable Beauty), with pieces from the George Pompidou Center, which will be open to the public at the Wifredo Lam art gallery in Havana.

Cinemateca de Cuba, an entity in charge of storing and preserving Cuban and foreign films, announced a season of French movies while the Victor Hugo House will screen films related to the life and work of outstanding poet and scriptwriter Jacques Prevert.

Some of the main concerts include one by Ars Longa at the Church of St. Francis of Paula on March 13th, and another by Meta Duet at the Minor Basilica of the St. Francis of Assisi Convent on March 16th, both also as part of the Spring of Havana Festival.

Another attraction will be the visit of the French puppet company Filet Bulles who will perform at the Vitrina de Valonia and the French Alliance in Havana.

The provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Pinar del Río will also host activities related to the Week of la Francophonie.
