A pianist, from his sensitivity, will play essential songs in different venues in Cuba. Jose Maria Vitier has wanted his national tour—called Canciones sin palabras— takes these songs we sometimes sing and recognize their melodies.

"I always put a generic name to these tours. These are important songs, but nobody will sing. I'm alone playing the piano," says the artist to Cubasi.

Vitier, who will start the tour on March 4th in the city of Guantanamo, confesses himself an eternal admirer of ballads, Afro-Cuban culture, rumba and jazz. Along with his talent, he will perform national classics like “Quiéreme mucho” by Gonzalo Roig, and Miguel Matamoros’ “Son de la Loma”.

His compositions will also reach Cuban localities. Jose Maria will perform Variaciones afrocubanas, his free version on Yoruba topics, its romantic love song Gacela del amor imprevisto and Deseos, and his devoted Oración por Cuba, among others.

The musician has invited percussionists Adel Gonzalez and Luis Bárbaro Rodriguez for the 13 concerts scheduled. There will be many “premieres, half of the material is new”, he says.

Jose Maria reveals he has been recording a lot and "concerts—both the tour and Havana’s on March 24th at the San Francisco Convent and Basilica Minor—will be different, based on material to be released in coming albums.

It is the third consecutive year that Vitier undertakes this kind of tour. He promoted his CD/DVD album Pulsos de vida— launched at the International Fair Cubadisco 2009—, as well as the album Paisaje interior.

Although the performances in Santiago de Cuba, Bayamo, Manzanillo, Camagüey, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Havana, Cardenas, Bejucal and San Jose de las Lajas, will keep busy José María, he already envisions new recording projects.

Those versions of songs naming the tour are about to be released. Besides, there is an album dedicated to chamber music.

The tour Canciones sin palabras and new recordings represents an opportunity to delve into Jose Maria Vitier’s incredible world of sound. The public won´t lose track of it.
