A change in U.S. policy toward Cuba is reviving weekly flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Havana.

Restrictions govern most Americans’ travel to Cuba. But the Obama administration loosened some of those constraints a couple of months ago. In a reversal of Bush administration rules, the federal government is allowing U.S. citizens with relatives in
Cuba to visit more often than every three years. A Southland company began to sell flight tickets late last month.

Every Tuesday, Cuba Travel Services will charter a Continental Airlines jet between L.A. International and Jose Marti airports. Round trip fares for adults begin at $889.

Most passengers will be Cuban-Americans with family on the island, or journalists, academics, or participants in sports and cultural exchanges allowed special clearance to visit Cuba.
