The 12th International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Issues focuses its debates on the global crisis, international financial scene and world trade situation in its second day.

One of the meeting particular characteristics is the debate on recession and its social magnitude from a multidisciplinary approach.

In the meeting, that will last until March 5, there will be discussion on the nature of recession, if it is typical capitalist cycle's crisis or whether the system incapable of protecting its basis from a multidimensional approach of the phenomena (energy, finances and environment) is crashing.

There will also be a discussion on the importance of the integration among different world regions like Latin America, Asia and Africa, the current situation of trade relations and monetary system, especially the dollar.

The importance of transnational companies, short and middle companies, micro-credit and cooperatives as an alternative will be also dealt with.

Participants will also discuss US "intentions" in Latin America, specifically in then establishment of naval stations in Colombia and Panama.

The 12th International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Issues is attended by academics, economists, political scientists, ethnologists and jurists from different thinking schools from all over the world, which facilitate to analyze the situation from different points of view.

There are about 1,500 experts from around 40 countries taking part in the meeting.
