Cuba will host from March 1-5 the International Conference on Globalization and Development, said Dr. Esther Aguilera, member of the organizing committee.

The 12th meeting will address the causes and consequences of the world economic distress, as well as prospects and solutions to the current situation, added Aguilera, also vice president of the National Association of Cuban Economists (ANEC).

Some 1,500 guests from 40 countries, including academicians, economists, political experts, ethnologists and attorneys, will address recession to find out whether it is a typical cycle or a cracking in Capitalism and its multiple contributors, as well as integration in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Also on the agenda will be world trade and the dollar within today's monetary system, the role of transnationals, medium-size and small companies, micro-credits, and cooperatives as an alternative.

Dr. Aguilera said the specialists will also discuss the US expansion in Latin America through its military bases, especially those in Colombia and Panama, and the main social effect of the crisis: unemployment.
