Canadian cyclist Guillaume Boivin and Martin Gilbert made the one-two in the eleventh stage at the Vuelta a Cuba cycling tour this Friday.

The duo from the Spidertech squad crossed the finish line with a powerful sprint to arrive in San Antonio town in 2:47.17 hours after riding 120 kilometers from Matanzas city, leaving the third place for local Jans Carlos Arias.

The day was cool, and with the same behaviour from the competitors: the main Cuban team controlled the race to help current leader Arnold Alcolea to keep his yellow jersey.

However, the rider from the University team Ruben Campanioni led an escape of four that covered the first two intermediate parts of the stage ahead of the pack when they passed Madruga (34 kilometer) and Güines (59), but in the third part, San José de las Lajas (77), Canadian Peter Woestenberg took the lead.

Yenier López, third in the overall standings and member of the Cuba A team, told ACN news agency that his squad's strategy will continue being to keep a close pack so the sprinters will be the ones to dispute the first places.

We stayed close to the escapees at a good rate, and there were 1o kilometers from the finish line we went after them, said Lopez after praising the good level of the other competitors. Now, Cuban Arnold Alcolea keeps the lead, followed by Venezuelan Jose Alarcon at 37 seconds, and Lopez at 1.22 minutes.
