The 12th International Meeting of Economists on Globalization and Development Problems will be held from March 1st through the 5th in this capital, with the participation of some 1,500 delegates and guests from 40 countries, among them 1999 Nobel Economy Prize winner Robert Mundell, from Canada.

During a press conference, Esther Aguilera, member of the event’s organizing committee, said that the world economic crisis, examined in its structural causes, expressions, interrelations and possible solutions is back on the agenda shortly after its emergence in 2007.

Havana’s Convention Center will welcome economists, sociologists, political scientists, academicians, jurists, writers, journalists, officials from organizations likes the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization, entrepreneurs, members of cooperatives and leaders of political forces and social movements.

The multidimensional nature of the crisis; hegemony and counter-hegemony in the globalization process; the current world monetary and financial panorama; the reform of the international monetary and financial system; and the importance and perspectives of the cooperation and integration processes, are among the themes that will be tackled by delegates to the event.

Also analyzed will be economy and integration of the Caribbean; globalization and sustainable development; the control of natural resources, poverty, inequality and equity; and the problems of unemployment, among others.
