Prime Minister of Haiti Jean Max Bellerive is expected arrived in Santo Domingo this Saturday, leading a technical delegation that will examine with Dominican peers a strategy to reconstruct the devastated Caribbean country.

The meetings were scheduled to start at 3:00 pm local time (17:00 GMT) at the Ministry of Economy headquarters, Dominican Minister of Economy Temistocles Montas announced.

This joint work was one of the agreements reached last week by both parties during a visit to Port au Prince of a Dominican delegation led by Vice President Rafael Albuquerque, accompanied by Ibero-American General Secretary Enrique Iglesias, explained Montas.

The experts have been commissioned "to draft a program for Haiti's re-foundation," to be presented in April to leaders attending the World Summit for this purpose to be held in Santo Domingo and another meeting to be held on a yet to be defined date at the UN headquarters.

Bellerive told his Dominican hosts that "in barely 30 seconds, the 60 percent of Haiti's Gross Domestic Product was destroyed by the quake on January 12.

He added that it is necessary to know urgent and mid and long-term needs in Haiti, according to Dominican sources.

The Dominican Republic and Haiti make up the Caribbean island of Hispaniola, with the first in charge of securing the arrival of international aid flowing since the quake, which killed 270,000 people and left one million homeless, according to latest figures.
