Holguin first street lights came to be true in June 22, 1760 with the placement of six lamps in the surroundings of the San Isidoro church in Holguin down town.

The lamps remain lit the whole night long, except during the starry nights in full moon face, which were never lit up for saving reasons.

The lamps were lit up at 6:00 in the afternoon in winter and at 7 o'clock in summer. This measure was later extended to the whole city in the year of the year 1816.
