Organizers of the 7th University-2010 International Conference, to begin next week in Cuba, are preparing a workshop on food security and sovereignty, an issue to be debated for the first time in this kind of events.

The meeting's subject matters are in tune with the world meetings in 1998 and 2009, and allow strengthening Latin America's stance as a region and part of the Third World, said Jose Luis Garcia, head of the scientific program.

The also director of Science and Technique of the Cuban Higher Education Ministry told Juventud Rebelde daily that privatization of education will be particularly analyzed in the forum.

Half of colleges in Latin America are currently private, but with some exceptions, public universities have more students and better quality.

The conference, expected to be attended by over 2,000 delegates from 50 countries and 1,000 Cuban participants, also favors a wide range of actions for cooperation, he said.

About twenty Education Ministers and 200 university rectors will participate as well, and the event's program will include roundtable discussions, panels, and 45 top-level lectures.
