A Cuban program of hospital classrooms is currently benefiting over 400 children with different afflictions, authorities from the Education Ministry (MINED) said.

  The project aims at providing hospitalized children with adequate social care, and involves several specialists who exchange with the patients.

The initiative, organized by MINED and the Public Health Ministry, allows them receive classes according to their learning abilities, while enjoying cultural and recreational activities.

The majority of those children are at oncological hospitals, but they also include others, who have suffered accidents and need to remain hospitalized for a long time, the head of MINED's department for students' health, Maria Antonia Torres, told Granma daily.

In addition, over 1,300 sick children are assisted at home, she stated.
