Three unpublished letters written by relatives of Cuban National Hero Jose Martí were found in the archives of the ‘Fragua Martiana’ Museum in Havana.

Juventud Rebelde newspaper reports that two of the letters were written from Mexico shortly after April 22, 1874, by one of Jose Marti’s sister, Mariana Salustiana Marti Perez – known as Ana -, to another sister, Leonor Patrona, who was then living in the Cuban capital.

The other letter was written from Havana by Marti’s mother, Leonor Perez Cabrera, to her daughter Amelia, who was then living in Mexico, in December 1876.

These messages have revealed details hitherto unknown about Jose Marti’s family between the years 1874 and 1877, a period from which little information has been found.

The letters were found by Carlos Manuel Marchante Castellanos, a specialist and researcher on the life and work of the Cuban National Hero who works in the aforementioned museum.
