Alfredo Morales Miranda, nicknamed “Chiquitin”, passed away today in the north-eastern Cuban city of Holguin, after almost six decades of contribution to the country’s art and culture.

Morales, born in June 30, 1929 in Camaguey, is the author of the bolero “Terrible Sueno” (Terrible Dream), a piece popularized by Cuban singer Hector Tellez.

He began his career as a percussionist in the grouping of Faustino Oramas in 1953.
With the victory of the Cuban Revolution he started to perform in radio stations and night clubs in Havana, and became a musician in famous noted groupings as those of Nino Rivera and Pello el Afrokan, with whom he made his first recordings.

In 1962, he returned to the city of Holguin where he played in the bands Los Diablos and Los Chicos de Cuba before beginning a soloist career for more than four decades in Cuban and foreign stages.

“Chiquitin” was a composer of excellent melodic domain and harmonic purity and grabbed in 1976 the First Prize in the Children Song Festival with the pieces “A la escuela hay que llegar puntual” (You’ve got to be punctual to school) and the march “En promocion avanzare” (I’ll get good marks).

Among his latest recordings there stand out the CDs “Los boleros holguineros” (2004) and “Las canciones internacionales” (2005), both recorded in Canada for the Vogel Records company.

In 2007, Cuba’s Recordings Company (EGREM) released his CD Hombre como yo (A Man Like Me), which comes from the title of one of his most outstanding creations.
