Just a few days have gone by for 2010 and cattle raisers in the Cuba eastern province of Holguin are committed to collecting some 35 million litres of milk for the current season which would be distributed to the population, industry, social programs, tourism and milk processing.

Cattle raisers in Holguin surpassed 34 millions of litres, during last year’s production plan and the private and cooperative farmers contributed with 70 percent of the whole supply.

Among the measures taken here to reach such plan is working to assure the animals’ feeding by planting grass in about six thousand hectares, of which 80 percent will be for sugar cane fields as a means of guaranteeing food for the dry season.

Some improvement has been reached here too in the local cattle farms, such as the instalment of thermos for milk storage.

The local authorities have also strengthened the system of milk direct supply to stores, what is already working in eight out of fourteen municipalities in the province.

An additional fact that has allowed milk production reach higher levels in Holguin is the work done by experts in artificial insemination in all the farms whose services are highly welcomed by the more than 28 thousand cattle raisers.
