The Mockingbird had disappeared. Its bewitching trill ceased to be heard in the few woods that remained in Banes after the pass of hurricane Ike last September 2008. Since then, no mockingbird was spotted all around.

Every morning, minutes before daybreak, one could hear it singing its different melodies that so much amuse both the dawn and the soul.

But everything had a sad sudden ending. The morning of September 8, 2008 when we still could hear the strong gusts of winds after being hit by hurricane Ike, the beautiful song of the mockingbird was not listened to then.

We think that its sadness was so deep - after the severe damages the event caused - that it decided to remain silent the days after.

We waited for it the following day, and then the following day, and the other one, but it didn't show up.

We soon learnt that not alone the flora, but the fauna had also undergone important damages. And we thought too that the morning mockingbird that made our lives happy every day was gone, that it lost its life in the midst of such disaster.

Days went by, and weeks and months, and the melodious bird didn't return from its long trip.

But before the year ended, on a sunny morning, we heard something familiar that we had lost, we could hear the unmistakable trills of the bird that was singing again.

We all walked out our place, it was right there on a tree. We felt a deep moving emotion.

The mockingbird returned! Its trill is very strong and it is making the morning and our souls happy again!
