After a triumphant European tour, world-class dancers Anette Delgado and Javier Torres of the National Ballet of Cuba will grace Greater Toronto Area stages with their unique and deeply sensuous art form.

The pair is slated to perform in a series of events, including An Evening with the Stars of the Cuban National Ballet at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre Dec. 8, 2009. The evening features choreography by internationally acclaimed prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso – Cuba’s grand diva of ballet.

Delgado and Torres will go on to star in the Hamilton production of The Nutcracker Dec. 11-13, 2009 at Hamilton Place. The production will feature Alonso’s troupe alongside young dancers from the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble (CBYE).

CBYE is hosting a media event on Fraday, Nov. 27, 2009 at 4 p.m. at Carranza Barristers and Solicitors, located at 1280 Finch Ave. W., Suite 200, Toronto. Both Delgado and Torres will be on hand for photo opportunities and to field questions.

“Anette Delgado represents pure classical lines in her splendidly lyrical style,” says Belma Gurdil-Diamante, CBYE chief executive. “And Javier Torres is the perfect harmony of masculine Cuban sensuality and classical training.”

Torres joined the National Ballet of Cuba in 2000, where he studied under Alonso’s technical and artistic direction. He became a principal dancer in 2005 and has since performed in Latin America, the U.S., Europe and China. Under Alonso’s
careful watch, Delgado was granted prima ballerina status in 2005.

Between 1999-2001, however, she joined the Jeune Ballet de France, directed by Robert Bertier. There, she performed major roles in romantic and classical ballets and in contemporary works by Cuban and foreign choreographers.
