To create an ornithological watching circuit is part of the agenda of scientists from several institutions of Pinar del Rio, province that treasures 75 percent of the birds present in Cuba.

In that regard, doctor in Biological Sciences Alina Pérez Hernández, founder of Ecovida, talked about the project coordinated by Hermanos Saiz University in order to give the first scientific assesment on the perimeter tof the territory.

She added that the program is entitled "Evaluation of the ornithological potential of pine groves and semi-deciduous forests of Viñales National Park", a spot with plenty of biodiversity and worldwide recognition for its peculiar hillocks.

Ecovida entity, in the occasion of its tenth anniversary reaffirms as its main goal is the contribution to sustainable development through scientific productions and applications in tune with the environmental scenery of the province.

Publications of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), note the preservationist work of the territory, with over 20 percent of its geography inserted in the different categories for the protection of nature, among them the biosphere reserves in the Guanahacabibes Peninsula and Rosario Range.

Those and other places shelter the Cuban grassquit (Tomeguin del Pinar), endemic of the local forests and part of the over 200 bird species visible in the region.
