Cuban painter Nelson Dominguez ran off with the National Prize for Plastic Arts 2009 thanks to a steady work with a permanent yearning for quest.

The jury, presided by sculptor Jose Villa Soberon, Vice-president of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists highlighted his gift to shift through several styles comprising from painting, to sculpture and ceramic, and his Cuban identity.

This prize granted by the National Council of Plastic Arts also had other candidates: the painter Zayda del Rio, Rene Francisco, and Carlos Garaicoa, the photographer Liborio Noval, and the designer Manuel Hernandez.

Born in 1947 in Santiago de Cuba, Dominguez has won the National Prize of the International Painting Festival of Cannes (1976) and the Prize of Honor of the Graphical Biennial of India (1991), among others.
