The 4th International Conference of Ecological Building Materials will be on session here from November 24 to 27, with the main goal of achieving a sustainable development in the field as to face the wold crisis.


The director of the Research and Development Center of Structures and Materials (CIDEM), Doctor José Fernando Martirena, president of the meeting, said outstanding experts of the branch will be present to exchange experiences.

The doctor added that scientifics, politicians and constructors from about 25 countries will participate, to continue widening valid technologies in view of the economic and ecological challenges worldwide.

Granma province is the venue of the conference due to the exisiting local resources for the construction of houses and other works, a good organization of the bulding materials coming from the factories, is the main object here.

Many materials are used for the building of facilities such as: bricks of burned clay, the sowing of bamboo, therefore wood for multiple uses is available.

Martirena highlighted among the current challenges the need to cease damage to the environment and improve the quality of life, as well as to provide solutions to the lack of houses.

More than half of people lack comfortable houses and basic services, in fact Cuba is an example of what can be done in the field.

The Cuban state plays a decisive role finding out solution to face these needs, the state plays a decisive role, he stressed.

The Research and Development Center of Structures and Materials was created 18 years ago in Santa Clara's University, which develops innovative and sustainable building materials, and promotes its use in the country and abroad.

Martirena obtained the HABITAT prize in 2007, conferred by the University of the United Nations and Building Social Housing Foundation.
