The ancient city of Sancti Spiritus, one of the first villages founded in Cuba on June 4th, 1514, is currently celebrating the 495 anniversary of its foundation.
The village was first established on the banks of the Tuinucu river. Five years later it transferred next to the Yayabo river where it was definitively settled.
Several activities have been scheduled for the celebration taking place from May 29 until June 6. Different personalities from this city will be honored during the festivities.
The city will also be presenting several local prizes like the Miguel Companioni award (musical investigation and composition) along with the Juan Rodríguez Paz “El Monje” (plastic arts) and the Fayad Jamís prizes (children literature and essay).
