In Bayamo, Cuba, Convention of Agricultural Engineering
With the production of food as one of its main topics, the 2009 Convention of Agricultural Engineering begins on Tuesday in the city of Bayamo, in the southeastern province of Granma.

More than 200 national and foreign experts are attending the event, whose program includes congresses on Irrigation and Drainage and also on Farming Mechanization as well as a symposium on Geomatics and other technologies of Agricultural Engineering.

Participants in the event, called by the Cuban Institute of Irrigation and Drainage Research, will discuss important aspects related to Cuban programs to accelerate the production of food in the face of the current international economic crisis.

Some of the most interesting works that will be presented during the meeting deal with topics such as irrigation techniques and their environmental impact, agricultural mechanization, the use of draft animals, houses of protected crops, climate change and food security in the management of water resources.

Other themes include the interpretation of satellite images, precision agriculture and modern techniques in Agricultural Engineering. The event concludes next Friday.
