The festivity ‘Fulgor de Mayo’, which recently concluded in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, pays homage to Cuban poet José María Heredia, considered the first Romantic poet in the Americas.

Also on the program were poetry readings, artistic presentations, contests and the project ‘Conjugando tradiciones’, aimed at promoting the vast work of Heredia through dance, poetry and other art disciplines.

An exhibit was also inaugurated, featuring aspects of the life and legacy of the author of ‘Himno del Desterrado’ (The Hymn of the Exile) and literary works like ‘En el Teocalli de Cholula’, (on the temple pyramid of Cholula), written during a visit to Mexico when he was only seventeen.

The Heredia Committee was also holding sessions. Created in Santiago de Cuba, it groups researchers and scholars interested in the life and work of the prestigious essayist and playwright.

The museum, considered a jewel of architecture, develops a wide program of activities, aimed at promoting the vast work of Heredia with several exhibition halls.
