Cuba Fosters Covered Crops
In eastern Ciego de Avila province, investments have been made to increase vegetable production.

Experts said 385 hectares of crops covered with nylon fabric to protect them against insects would be under exploitation nationwide.

That kind of cover is seven times cheaper than traditional ones, as imported inputs are reduced and 100 tons of fresh food per hectare can be produced every year.

In addition, the use of nets in the roofs reduces the impact of sunlight by 30 percent, thus improving the quality of vegetables.
