Havana’s Morro Cabaña Complex – a colonial fortress enjoying the status of a world heritage site – will be the venue of Cuba’s International Tourism Fair (FITCUBA 2009) from May 4th to 8th this year. The gathering, considered the most important fair organized by the Cuban tourism industry, will bring together tour operators, travel agents, transport and airline industry representatives and hotel managers from around the world and promises to be a fruitful space for exchange in the sector.

As in previous years, the fair will be dedicated to a source country of commercial significance to the Cuban tourism sector. This year, Germany enjoys this distinction and will offer a presentation titled “German Tourism and Culture”.

As host country, Cuba will promote the attractions and cultural significance of several of its heritage cities (Havana, Matanzas, Remedios, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Camaguey, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa), emphasizing the distinctive qualities of these tourism products.

Eduardo Acosto, Cuba’s Tourism Manager for Venezuela and Colombia, underscored that the fair will be an opportunity to consolidate commercial contacts established in the previous fair and during visits to different source markets. Trips to Cuba’s different heritage cities will be coordinated from May 7 to 9.

The fair’s program also includes presentations by Cubana de Aviación, Cuba’s national airline company, which celebrates 80 years of operations around the world, and the Tropicana Cabaret, which looks back on 70 years of exotic Caribbean shows.

Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism and its various offices have expressed their willingness to offer full support to all who are interested in establishing commercial
