The Havana-based Casa de las Americas will hold a series of events to celebrate its 50th anniversary on Tuesday.

In May, a conference on Caribbean social thought will be held to study the dimension of late Dominican intellectual Juan Bosch, whose theoretical and practical legacy will be debated during lectures and film exhibitions.

Other events are a Coffee Talk on Argentinean playwright Osvaldo Dragun (1929-1999) and the bibliographic exhibition Dragun: Eighty Years.

Casa de las Americas will also grant the La Joven Estampa award to Latin American and Caribbean graphic artists, and will hold the International Workshop on Intervention in Outdoors Spaces: Road to Home, presided by one of the pioneers of this artistic expression, Antonio Martorell, from the Dominican Republic.

In addition, artists Juvenal Ravelo (Venezuela) and Rogelio Polesello (Argentina), and Cuban researcher Jose Veigas will express their viewpoints on kinetism.

In the Women on Line section, Professor Vicky Unruh, from the University of Kansas and author of "Latin American Vanguard: The Art of Contentious Encounters", among other books, will give a lecture entitled "From the Garden to Public Spaces: Women in the Latin American Vanguards".
