Matilde passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. She was born on January 8, 1920 in Catalina de Guines, Habana Cuba.

She worked in the entire island of Cuba, with the exception of the western most portion of the country. Along with her husband, Juan Felipe Cardenas, and Arturo Rangel, she founded the mission church in Isla de Pino for Soldier of the Cross EIC. She worked for 20 years without tiring in Chile and Peru, helping to build churches. She was called "pastor" by the Chileans.

She is widely known to many for her hospitality and love. She enjoyed sharing with others, her greatest joy was to give. Missionary Matilde lived fully until the age of 89.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four of her seven brothers.

Survivors include her six children, Juana Vincha, Moises Cardenas, Mirales Cardenas, Adan Cardenas, Benjamin Cardenas, and Pedro Cardenas; nine grandchildren.
