A new choreography by Cuban Prima Ballerina Alicia Alonso, based on a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca, will be premiered during the 21st La Huella de España Festival, to take place in Havana from May 31 to June 7.

Precious and the Air is the title of the ballet inspired on Lorca's homonymous poem, one of the most famous works of the Gypsy Collection of Ballads. The music is one of the highlights of the choreography, an unpublished work by Granada's composer Angel Barrios (1882-1964), who worked along with the poet on some parts of the composition.
For stage and costume designs, Alicia Alonso chose Cuban artist Frank Álvarez. The choreography approaches Lorca's environment and Spanish dance from the ballet language.
The life and work of Federico García Lorca has been a source of inspiration for musicians, poets, artists and in particular for choreographers who have brought to the stage the work of Granada's poet on innumerable occasions.
