Best composer to be awarded in Cubadisco 2009
For the first time in 2009 there will be given in the 2009 Cubadisco International Festival the Composer Award aiming to recognize and stimulate the best concert creations. This was announced here by the president of the Organizing Committee. There will be more than 200 pieces competing in this event in the most diverse genres of music and music production, although as an exception there will be given too the Extraordinary Children’s Music International Award, which is being contended by four countries.

However, there are nine CDs more among more than thirty competitors, a category which last year had only four CDs nominated and in 2007 there were only two competing.

The year 2006 saw the special handing over of the Award for the Theme of the Year, which went to Añoranza por la conga (Yearning for Conga) by Ricardo Leyva and Sur Caribe.

The Award to the Music Producer was created in 2004 and that year it went to the legendary singer and composer Silvio Rodríguez. For this edition there are excellent proposals being considered, highlighted Benemelis.

In the year 2002 appeared one of the most important categories due to the increasing and expected use of the new technologies: video clips, every year more and more competitive and professional.

For this edition there will be about sixty audio visual projects (18 CD-DVD, a multimedia, 15 documentaries and 25 video clips) and for the first time there will be a recognition given to the best video clip for children, with nineteen pieces made in the movie studios from the Instituto Cubano del Arte y la Industria Cinematográfica (Cuban Institute for the Arts and Movie Industry).

Cubadisco 2009 will be made here from May 16 to 24 and the Awarding Gala for the most important music productions from 2008 will take place on May 16 in the Karl Marx theatre.

This festival, the most important one in Cuban music industry, will be dedicated to Puerto Rico as the guest of honor and to children.
