Extraordinary Award Bicentennial of Spanish American emancipation
Latin American authors can compete with unpublished works of more than 500 pages that have not been presented in other events. The genres are Poetry and Theater.

The jury will grant a unique prize, which will be published thereafter, and as many mentions as it sees fit. All the works should be submitted to “Casa de las Americas”, 3rd and G, Vedado, Havana, 10400, Cuba, or to Cuban embassies, before October 31 of this year.

The jury will meet in Havana in January 2010 and once again it will confer the honorary awards “Jose Lezama Lima” in poetry; “Jose Maria Arguedas” in story-telling and “Ezequiel Martinez Estrada” in essay to writings by Latin American authors, whose first edition in Spanish was in 2007 or 2008.

The essay books should deal with Latin American and Caribbean topics, published in Spanish, by authors of any nationality.

All of this will happen while the summons to the “Casa de Las Americas” Literary Award 2010, in its 51st edition, remains open until October 31 2009.  This event will take place on January 18-28 and unpublished poetry and theater works will be competing.

There will also be Brazilian authors, with non fiction books written in Portuguese and published during 2008-2009. Another category will be English-speaking Caribbeans with books published in that language or in creole during 2006-2009.
