His paper was awarded for its originality and depth in dealing with a central topic: consumerism and its space axis, the shopping mall as a place to transform the citizen in an isolated and stereotyped individual.

The second prize went to Cuban Zuleica Margarita Romay Guerra with “Again the Troyan Horses. Social explorations for domination, an interesting study that analyzes the strategies of cultural penetration and political and educational control of Latin America, based on apparently objective and neutral instruments of academic and statistical nature.

The third prize was given to Argentinean Luis Cesar Bou for his work of Africa and History, in which he deals with vibrant knowledgeability, the colonial racism to unravel the general mechanisms of construction and destruction of the other, in the framework of an economic and social exploitation system.

Special mentions were awarded to Antonia Maria Rodriguez of Spain for her essay “The First Great Defeat of US Imperial Project” and to Vicent Boix (Spain) for “Farmers of the World, Unite!”.

Other mentions were given to Cubans Carlos Alzugaray, Ernesto Vilches Izquierdo, Gilberto Valdes Gutierrez y Lázaro Luis Gonzalez por los ensayos: The Bush Administration and United States Recent History, Neoliberal Imperialism: Image of an Announced Demise, Anti-Systemic Movements and popular governments in Latin America during the first decade of the 21st Century.

The contest is summoned each year with the purpose of recognizing and spread the critical thinking on problems and challenges of the contemporary world, from a wide anticolonial and anti-imperialist perspective.

After awarding the prizes the 7th edition of the contest was announced and authors from any country will be able to take part with an unedited essay, in Spanish, Portuguese, English or French, as long as it was not published or awarded previously in another contest.

The summons was announced hopes to incentívate ideas that promote change and resistance to hegemonic power.
