Besides defining the anthropological research trends which better apply to the local context, the group will implement a communication net between teachers and other intellectuals to socialize all the information available on the matter.

The department is headed by Mercedes Machado, director of the Center, and gathers specialists from Universidad de Camagüey, the School of Medicine and some other institutions from the Culture House System.

Professionals from the City Historian Office and the Camagüey branch of the Asociación Yoruba de Cuba (Afrocuban organization) are also part of the department.

The article "Signos de camagüeyanidad" (signs of belonging to Camagüey), was the first scientific contribution made by this association founded at "Vicentina de la Torre" Arts Academy.
