Cuba China Joint Hospitals Show Satisfactory Results
As part of a bilateral agreement between the Cuban and Chinese governments, more than 117,000 patients have been treated thus far in two joint ophthalmological hospitals in the Asian country.

Dr. Eddy Milvia Hernandez, representative of Cuban Medical Services, told Prensa Latina news agency that the program is on the right track.

Hernandez recalled that the first of these two hospitals was inaugurated two years ago in Xining, capital of the Chinese province of Qinghai, where 103,745 patients had been treated by November 30, 2008.

She added that the second one opened only eight months ago in Hebi, in the province of Henan. A total of 13,500 patients have already been treated there, she stressed.

Hernandez said that the Cuban ophthalmologists in these two medical facilities have performed more than 4,000 surgeries during this period.

She noted that these hospitals use state-of-the-art technology and modern procedures such as laser treatment.

Hernandez added that the staff in these two facilities includes 70 people, including specialists, nurses and technicians, although this figure will soon increase with the inauguration soon of the Cuba-China Friendship hospital in Datong, in the province of Shanxi.
