Organizers of the 30th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema confirmed on Wednesday that Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro will arrive Saturday to attend the special presentation of the film about Ernesto Che Guevara by US filmmaker Steven Soderbergh.
The two-part movie, The Argentine and the Guerilla, stars 41-year-old Del Toro (San German, Puerto Rico) in the role of Che, for which he won best actor at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Del Toro, who won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2001 for his role in Traffic, will come to Havana with actors Rodrigo Santoro (Brazil) who plays Raul Castro and Santiago Cabrera (Chile) who plays Camilo Cienfuegos.
The organizers said Soderbergh is not expected to attend.
Both Del Toro and his colleagues will come via Miami, where Soderbergh's film will be presented on Thursday at the Byron Carlyle Hall, a screening that, according to press reports, has received threats by extremists.
