Mexican writer Sergio Pitol, Nostalgic for Havana

Mexican writer Sergio Pitol could hardly control his choked voice as he finished reading fragments of his Diario de la Pradera, a touching testimony of his stay in Havana four years ago.

The work actually evokes, "like a diary with dates and marvellous places," his hospitalization at La Pradera Clinic for a delicate medical treatment and later recovery phase, when he walked along the streets of Havana.

The reading of the testimony is part of Casa de las Americas" tribute to the Cervantes 2005 prize winner during its traditional Week of the Author November 18-21, aimed at recognizing the work of a Latin American writer.

In Diario de La Pradera, Pitol uses his medical rehabilitation as pretext to evoke his first trip to Havana about 50 years ago, with his peculiar amazing writing, full of nostalgia.
