Hurricane Paloma hit the area of another hurricane that devastated Santa Cruz del Sur in 1932
The government is already assessing the damages and helping repair the houses that hurricane Paloma left standing on Saturday night.

Hurricane Paloma hit the area a few hours before the anniversary of another hurricane that devastated Santa Cruz del Sur in 1932, taking 3,000 lives.

This time no one died but 400 houses were completely destroyed and the owners were evacuated and placed in university dormitories of Camaguey.

Cuban first Vice-president Jose Ramon Machado Ventura visited the area and said that the neighborhood might eventually be moved to a higher area away from the shore because these meteorological phenomena will continue damaging the Island.

The damages caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike on September in Cuba were estimated at over $8 billion, and hurricane Paloma hinders the recovery efforts.
