Dominican Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso affirmed Sunday that the close relations between Cuba and his country are positive, and called the Island “important partner,” in statements made shortly before leaving the Egyptian capital for Qatar.

Morales made a 3-day visit to Egypt as part of a tour that will close Monday in the United Arab Emirates, after he accompanies Dominican President Leonel Fernandez in his official Doha visit.
In statements for Prensa Latina, the diplomat affirmed “Cuba has become an important partner for the Dominican Republic,” and stressed “there are key economic and cultural issues in which both sides work closely together.”
These historic relations, he noted, have been dynamic during the government of President Fernandez, and the two countries currently maintain common stances at several international forums.
“We work very close with the Cuban mission in Geneva,” the minister added, and highlighted that bilateral relations have increased, and trade currently exceeds 100 million dollars.
