International Ballet Festival Inaugurated in Havana with the Presence of President Raúl Castro

Cuban President Raul Castro attended on Tuesday the inauguration of the International Ballet Festival held at Havana’s Grand Theater.

Students from the Dance School of the Cuban National Ballet, the Alejo Carpentier Provincial Ballet School and the Cuban company danced on stage as part of the inaugural activity.

The program also includes a documentary dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Cuban National Ballet troupe and choreography entitled “A la Caida de la Tarde” and “Temas y Variaciones” by Alicia Alonso and George Balanchine.

Also present were Culture Minister Abel Prieto, President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon, the President of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists, UNEAC, Miguel Barnet, Venezuelan Culture Minister Hector Soto, in addition to other government officials and outstanding national and international ballet figures.
