Kirill, who is heading an ecclesiastical delegation that will participate in the consecration of the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in Havana, lauded the humanitarian principles of Cuban physicians.

    I must express my admiration for the achievements made at the Ramon Pando Ferrer Ophthalmological Center, the humanitarian principles, the professionalism of physicians and the cutting-edge technology they use, he told reporters after visiting the center. If these means are aimed to help the poor, results must be acknowledged, the Russian religious official said.

    Kirill expressed his wish that the visit by the official delegation from the Russian Orthodox Church to the Havana-based health center will contribute to fostering collaboration with Russian scientists and doctors.

    A large delegation from the Russian Federation arrived in Cuba on Friday to participate in the festivities on their country's Days in Cuba, as part of a tour that will include several Latin American countries to show off their achievements, culture and traditions.

    A Russian governmental delegation, headed by Industry and Trade Deputy Minister Stanislav Naumov and made up of Energy Deputy Minister Viacheslav Sinyugin and several businesspeople, is also visiting Havana.

    Liubov Sliska, first vice president of the Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament), is heading the delegation from that legislative organ.
