The preparations for the upcoming National Baseball Championship in Cuba has been characterized by the incorporation of prominent ex players to coach some of the teams.

Antonio Pacheco, who coaches national champion Santiago de Cuba, will be joined by Germán Mesa, who will lead Industriales, Luis Ulacia (Camagüey) and Luis Giraldo Casanova (Pinar del Río).
Lázaro Valle and Omar Linares will assist Mesa as pitching and batting coaches, respectively.
Santiago de Cuba, Pinar del Río, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, La Habana, Industriales, Ciego de Avila and Las Tunas were the top eight teams during last year's National Baseball Championship.
Only Pinar del Río (Jorge Fuentes) and La Habana (Esteban Lombillo) were coached by prominent ex players last year.
